Dutch newspaper Het Belang van Limburg, as relayed by Sport Witness, has offered an update on Leeds United‘s pursuit of Noa Lang. The report sheds some light on Telegraph’s claim which suggested that the Whites were among the club interested in the Club Brugge winger. It appears they have made no official contact with the Belgian outfit regarding Lang and may even have to pay more than the €25 million (as specified in the Telegraph report).
Who Is Noa Lang?
A product of the famed Ajax youth academy, Noa Lang has been a breakout star for Club Brugge since joining the club last summer. He initially joined the club on a season-long loan deal, but the move has been made permanent after the Dutchman ended up netting 14 goals in just 24 matches in his debut season in the Jupiler Pro League.
Indeed, Lang has been a true find for Club Brugge, impressing the onlookers with his skill on the ball, coupled with his pace and ability to create goalscoring opportunities. He has already bagged eight assists this season, but his tally of 14 league goals suggests that the 21-year-old is quite productive in front of the goal.
The Dutchman’s contributions in the final third have helped Club Brugge retain their dominance over the Jupiler Pro League, with the Belgian giants leading the table by a whopping 14 points.
Lang himself has settled in quite well, as Bruges is located in the Flanders region that has close ties with the Dutch culture. However, as his performances continue to raise eyebrows around Europe, a move away from Belgium could be on the cards this summer.
Should Leeds United Make A Move For Lang?
There are no doubts over the fact that Noa Lang is blessed with immense quality and potentially that could see him thrive anywhere. However, a move for him in the upcoming summer transfer window could be nothing less than a massive gamble from Leeds United’s perspective.
Despite all his talents, Lang is hugely inexperienced at the highest level of football. He has played in just one season of professional football, and it could be rather difficult for him to settle into the fast-paced nature of the Premier League, especially at this age.
A fee of over €25 million is also a massive risk for Leeds, especially in the current financial climate that has made risktaking an unaffordable luxury for mid-table clubs across Europe.
The Whites, in that regard, should also set their sights on other alternatives – perhaps someone with more experience at the highest level of football, who can prove to be a natural replacement for the likes of Rodrigo Moreno and Pablo Hernandez next season.
