According to Foot Mercato, Leeds United are lining up a move for Emiliano Buendia. The Norwich City playmaker has emerged as a top target for many clubs across England and indeed in Europe, following his excellent performances in the Championship. The Whites are among the clubs interested in the services of Buendia, although Norwich City are stubborn on their €40 million price tag.
Emiliano Buendia Lighting Up The Championship
Norwich City did a brilliant job last summer by keeping hold of Emiliano Buendia. The Argentine was one of Premier League’s success stories during the 2019/20 campaign, creating a plethora of chances despite his team’s relegation.
This season, the 24-year-old has lightened up the Championship with his performances in the final third. He has made 38 league appearances, scoring 14 goals while registering 17 assists – emerging as one of the league’s most productive players.
Buendia’s contributions in the attack have played a key role in helping the Canaries secure promotion back to the Premier League. His future at Carrow Road, however, appears to be in danger, as the playmaker has indeed impressed the onlookers with his ability to create chances in the final third.
The former Getafe starlet has also proved his ability to find the back of the net – something he was criticised for during his time in the Premier League. Even aside from his productivity, his ability to take on defenders, work in tight spaces and brilliant vision have all added a whole new dimension to Norwich’s creative game.
Is Buendia A Good Option For Leeds United?
Leeds United are in desperate need of reinforcements in the creative unit in the summer. They are braced to lose Pablo Hernandez while Mateusz Klich has had a steady decline since the turn of the year. It has seen the club appear quite overreliant on the services of Stuart Dallas, especially in the recent set of matches in the Premier League.
The addition of someone like Buendia, in that regard, could be a wise move by Marcelo Bielsa. The 24-year-old does have Premier League experience and could add that much-needed depth and quality in the number ten, especially as the club prepare for life without record signing Rodrigo Moreno next season.
Although it remains to be seen whether Buendia manages to settle himself under the tactical philosophy of Marcelo Bielsa, the Argentine connection between the two should certainly help him get used to his surroundings.
A fee of €40 million, though, could be a potential obstacle for Leeds United, in this current financial climate. It appears a lot could depend on the sales of Rodrigo and potentially Raphinha this summer.
