In a recent interview with Rousing The Kop, former Premier League striker Emile Heskey has backed his former club Liverpool to recruit Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer. When asked about his thoughts on whether the Reds should sign the English wide player, Heskey said,
“He (Sancho) would be. Young lad who has been fantastic in the German league. Really come of age and he is a very exciting player. Someone who gets fans off their bums, gets them cheering. He would be a very, very good signing.”
“He’s a very, very exciting young player. Very dynamic. He brings you skills and all that excitement which comes with a player of his talent.”
Sancho’s Outstanding Record In German Football This Season
The London-born playmaker is having another excellent season at Signal Iduna Park after producing a series of eye-catching performances from the right side of Dortmund’s attack. Sancho has registered 14 goals and 18 assists in 35 matches for the German giants this term across all fronts.
The 18-time England international has given a good account of himself by averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 2.0 shots, 2.7 key passes and 2.9 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga this season. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the attacking end of the pitch, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 82.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should The Reds Get Sancho On Board This Summer?
Sancho has got incredible pace in his locker that allows him to make some driving runs in behind the opposition half. He has got the vision to create plays for others around him and is proficient at using his quickness and agility to get the better of his marker in the final third.
The England international can deliver some pin-point crosses into the opposition penalty box and is also a decent finisher in the attacking third. He even has a wide range of passes under his belt that can sometimes make him such an unstoppable force out on the wide areas. Therefore, it is only logical for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to consider getting Sancho on board if he has the funds to pull off such a high-profile transfer.
This season has proven that the Reds need to freshen up their attack in the summer. Hence, they would be wise to orchestrate a big-money move to bring Sancho to Anfield when the transfer window reopens later this year. He will add some much-needed competition for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. However, if the Merseyside giants fail to land UEFA Champions League for next season, they could find it difficult to tempt the Dortmund star to join them in this off-season.
