Manchester United clashed heads with Leicester City at Old Trafford earlier tonight as they looked to pick up a positive result on their home turf. Luke Thomas broke the deadlock around the 10-minute-mark as he slotted the ball past David de Gea from a tight angle. Mason Greenwood scored the equaliser just five minutes later to make it 1-1 for the hosts. However, a second-half goal from Cagar Soyuncu turned out to be the winner for the visitors as the game ended 2-1.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester United player fared during the match against the Foxes.
David de Gea – 6/10
The Spanish shot-stopper made a brilliant save to deny Kelechi Iheanacho from close range in the second half; however, he was terribly let down by the defence tonight.
Brandon Williams – 5.5/10
The young full-back could have positioned himself in a better way to stop Luke Thomas from finding the back of the net. Apart from that, he put up a decent performance defensively.
Axel Tuanzebe – 5.5/10
The 23-year-old centre-back was nowhere to be found during Leicester’s goal. Besides, he kept giving away the ball in some of the most dangerous areas of the pitch throughout the ninety minutes.
Eric Bailly – 6/10
The Ivorian defender made some crucial tackles and clearances to help his side at the back.
Alex Telles – 6/10
The Brazilian left-back delivered some good crosses into the box and fared well defensively as well. He didn’t do much wrong tonight.
Nemanja Matic – 6/10
The Siberian midfielder intercepted some crucial passes to stop the opposition counter-attacks time and again. He shielded the entire backline throughout the match but looked a bit tired in the second forty-five minutes.
Juan Mata – 5/10
The Spaniard struggled to have any sort of influence on the game. Besides, his work rate was a bit lower than expected.
Mason Greenwood – 8/10
The Englishman scored the equalising goal for the hosts in the first half as he brilliantly dribbled past the Leicester defenders before beating Kasper Schmeichel in goal.
Donny van de Beek – 6/10
The Dutchman was rather focused on keeping it tidy tonight and hardly took any sort of risk in the opposition half.
Anthony Elanga – 6.5/10
The debutant constantly tried to make things happen down the left flank but lost the ball several times.
Amad Diallo – 7/10
Diallo got himself the assist from Mason Greenwood’s goal. His pace and slick movement created all sorts of menace for the Leicester defence.
SUBSTITUTES:
Edinson Cavani – 6/10
The Uruguayan striker made some good runs into the box after coming on.
Marcus Rashford – 6/10
Rashford provided his side with some extra energy going forward.
Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
The Portuguese playmaker had a golden chance to make it 2-2 but he failed to capitalise on it.
