Chelsea entertained Fulham at Stamford Bridge earlier today as they looked to pick up a victory at home and consolidate their position in the Premier League’s top-four. The Blues made a dream start to the game as Kai Havertz gave them the lead in the 10th minute with a tidy finish. Thomas Tuchel’s players maintained a good shape at the back and went into the half-time interval one goal up on the scoreline.
Havertz scored again in the 49th minute to put daylight between the two London sides. Chelsea managed the game well and cruised to a 2-0 win over their London rivals which now puts them in pole position to secure a top-four spot.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player performed during the match against the Cottagers.
GK: Edouard Mendy – 7/10
The Senegalese keeper made some crucial stops to secure a well-deserved clean sheet at home.
CB: Andreas Christensen – 7/10
Christensen kept a solid shape at the back and did enough to restrict the Cottagers from scoring during the 90 minutes.
CB: Thiago Silva – 7/10
The Brazilian defensive ace was a strong presence in the air and made some important clearances on the defensive end of the field.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 7.5/10
The French centre-back was a rock at the back as he cleared his lines when required. He also got stuck in with a few tackles to disrupt the opposition’s rhythm in the game.
RM: Reece James – 7/10
He hardly put for a foot wrong in the game in defence but struggled to make an impact in the second half if required.
CM: Billy Gilmour – 7/10
The Scottish midfield ace got stuck in with a couple of tackles and made a good chance in the attacking third.
CM: Mason Mount – 7.5/10
Mount did his fair share of defending and was the one who set-up Havertz’s opener in the tenth minute.
LM: Ben Chilwell – 6.5/10
Chilwell was defensively solid but lacked creativity in the Fulham half. He got subbed late in the match.
RAM: Hakim Ziyech – 7/10
He caused a few problems for the Fulham defenders but didn’t do enough to get his name on the scoresheet.
LAM: Timo Werner – 7.5/10
It was another encouraging display from the German striker. He set-up Havertz’s second goal but will be disappointed for not getting a goal himself.
ST: Kai Havertz – 8.5/10
Havetz scored two good goals to give Chelsea all three points in this London derby. Tuchel will be hoping for more of the same from him in the coming weeks.
Substitutes:
CM: N’Golo Kante – 6/10
Kante did well to see out the victory with the clean sheet intact.
ST: Tammy Abraham – 6/10
The English striker made a couple of clearances but didn’t get a sniff at goal.
LB: Marcos Alonso – 6/10
The Spaniard had a couple of shots and kept things tidy in defence.
