In a recent report, Sky Sports Germany has claimed that Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is on the radar of three European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window. It is believed that Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are locked in a three-way battle in the race to secure the signature of the Bayern Munich attacker in this off-season (via Sky Sports Germany).
Lewandowski’s Excellent Numbers In The Bundesliga This Season
Lewandowski is having another outstanding campaign at the Allianz Arena after putting in several match-winning displays as the primary centre-forward for the Bavarian giants over the past ten months. The Polish marksman has made 39 appearances for Hans-Dieter Flick’s side this term, registering 47 goals and nine assists across multiple competitions.
The 32-year-old has a minutes per goal ratio of 70 and has done well to average 4.5 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga this season. He has even interchanged possession relatively well, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 76.7% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Lewandowski is still playing at an elite level, so it is no surprise that so many top clubs are interested in landing him at the end of this campaign. At 32, he might have a few good years left in him to compete against the best players in European football.
Why Bayern Munich Need To Keep Lewandowski This Summer
Lewandowski is still amongst the deadliest strikers in European football as he can score goals for fun on the offensive end of the field. He has got a wealth of experience in his locker and can use his strong 1.85m frame to get the better of his marker in the final third.
Therefore, the Munich outfit should try everything in their power to keep Lewandowski at the Allianz Arena for at least the duration of his current contract which runs out in the summer of 2023. The Polish striker could still help the Bavarian club challenge for the UEFA Champions League trophy in the coming seasons as long as he can maintain his high standards in the attacking third of the pitch.
Even though father time is slowly starting to catch up with Lewandowski’s game, Bayern Munich should consider keeping him at the club beyond this summer as he might still have a big role to play for them over the next few years.
