According to Guardian, Manchester United are still interested in Kingsley Coman. The Bayern Munich winger was one of the potential targets for the Premier League giants last summer, and it seems Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on signing him this summer as well. However, Borussia Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho does remain the number one option.
Kingsley Coman’s Season So Far At Bayern Munich
Kingsley Coman has been an asset for Bayern Munich since joining the club back in 2015. Having already made almost 200 competitive outings for the Bundesliga giants, the winger has proved to be a bargain for the Bavarian outfit.
Last season, in particular, Coman was quite important to Bayern as his solid partnership with Serge Gnabry, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller helped the club win the Sextuple.
The Frenchman has continued to perform in a similar fashion in the ongoing campaign, notably bagging a total of ten assists in just 26 matches. His contributions in the final third have been key in helping Bayern Munich secure the Bundesliga title this season.
Perhaps more importantly, Coman’s form has been a timely one, as the likes of Douglas Costa, Leroy Sane and Gnabry have all failed to offer that consistency in the final third – making him one of the best performing players in the Bayern squad along with the likes of Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Muller and Lewandowski.
Will Nagelsmann Offload Coman In The Summer?
Bayern Munich are set for a summer of change as they brace themselves for a new era under Julian Nagelsmann. The 33-year-old is expected to bring about a squad overhaul that puts Coman’s future at Allianz Arena at great risk.
Although the Frenchman is an exceptionally talented attacker and has a vast amount of experience at the highest level of football, his lack of defensive qualities could be a cause for concern for Naglesmann.
It is also fair to point out that the former Juventus prodigy likes to operate wide rather than a central role, which Nagelsmann’s policy often demands. There is a chance Coman and even Sane could fall down the pecking order in the Bayern camp next season, as the new young coach looks to provide opportunities to players like Jamal Musiala, Muller and Gnabry.
It could open up an ideal opportunity for Manchester United to make a move for the Bayern Munich star, who could perhaps be a better option than Sancho due to his experience and success in European football. The winger is unlikely to cost more than €100 million either, with his current contract at Allianz Arena expiring in 2023.
