In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo has stated that Barcelona are hoping to re-sign Manchester City full-back, Adrian Bernabe, this summer. It has been revealed that the Catalans are eager to bring him back to the Nou Camp when his Man City contract runs out at the end of this campaign (via Mundo Deportivo).
Bernabe’s Recent Rise In English Football
Since joining Pep Guardiola’s side from Barca in the summer of 2018, Bernabe has done well to prove his worth at the youth level and earn five senior appearances at the Etihad Stadium. However, he is yet to make his debut in the Premier League.
The 19-year-old has appeared in 54 matches for Man City’s Under-23 side thus far, scoring 11 goals and providing 16 assists in the process across various competitions. At such a young age, Bernabe has already shown plenty of promising signs and is growing into a terrific talent.
As evident from his stats for the Man City U-23 team, he has added plenty of goals and assists to his game and could be on the verge of establishing himself in first-team football in the coming seasons.
Will Re-Signing Bernabe Be A Good Move For The Catalans?
Bernabe has decent pace in his locker and can make some driving runs with the ball down the left flank. He is a good crosser of the ball and can also strike the ball purely from long range. However, the Spanish whizkid needs to work on improving the defensive side of his game if he wants to become a world-class full-back in European football someday.
The talented teenager is highly versatile as he is primarily a left-back but can also operate as a left-sided winger or in the number ten position as an attacking midfielder if needed. Hence, Barca boss Ronald Koeman would be wise to engineer a move to bring him back to the Nou Camp as he has what it takes to become a success story in Spanish football.
At 19, Bernabe is only getting started but has the potential to become an ideal long-term successor to Jordi Alba who is entering the twilight years of his playing career. The fact that the Spaniard will be available as a free agent this summer makes him a great option for Koeman to consider ahead of the new campaign.
All in all, signing Bernabe will be an excellent move for the Catalans as he will be a low-risk, high reward acquisition for them. Koeman might also fancy his chances of getting the best out of the youngster over the next few seasons.
