AS has recently reported that Barcelona are facing fierce competition for Sevilla keeper Alfonso Pastor this summer. It has been claimed that the Catalan giants will have to rival Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Villarreal in pursuit of the Spanish youngster (via AS).
Pastor’s Recent Rise In Spanish Football
Pastor has caught the eye with his performances for Sevilla’s reserve side and deserves a lot of praise for already making his debut for their senior side in Europe. His only senior appearance came against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League earlier this season. However, the Spanish custodian shipped in four goals at home that day which was a big learning experience for him.
The 20-year-old has been involved in 36 matches for Sevilla Atletico, conceding 45 goals while securing 10 clean sheets in multiple competitions so far. The early signs have been quite promising from him but the jury is still out on whether he can make the leap up and play regular football in La Liga over the next few seasons.
Pastor has the makings of a top talent, so Barca boss Ronald Koeman will do well to win the race for his signature when the transfer window reopens later this year. He will be a perfect long-term replacement for Neto, who is set to leave the Catalan giants at the end of this campaign.
Is Pastor A Prospect For The Future?
Pastor can make some quick dives to deny the opposition a goal and has decent reflexes in his locker that help him pull off some solid saves at the back. However, the Spanish starlet needs to work on improving his strength so that he can keep hold of the ball when coming out to collect crosses and loose balls inside his penalty area.
There is no denying that Pastor has the potential to become a future star in Spanish football as long as he can work hard on improving himself with each season. At 20, the Sevilla goalkeeper still has plenty of time to make himself a regular starter at the highest level.
With all things considered, Pastor is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future, so Barca should consider going all out to win the chase to acquire his services during this summer transfer window. Koeman is an experienced manager who could be a good candidate to nurture Pastor’s development and help him become a success story at the Nou Camp.
