In a recent report, Foot Mercato has mentioned that Arsenal midfielder Mateo Guendouzi is gathering interest from a dozen European clubs including Olympique Marseille, Brighton & Hove Albion, Villarreal, Valencia and Sevilla this summer. However, it is understood that Marseille are in pole position to secure the signature of the Gunners midfielder who is set to return from his loan spell at Hertha Berlin at the end of next month (via Foot Mercato).
Guendouzi’s Impressive Loan Spell At Olympiastadion Berlin
Guendouzi has experienced a solid loan stay in German football where he has established himself as a solid contributor for the Berlin outfit over the past ten months. The French midfield ace has participated in 24 matches for the German club this term, registering two goals and three assists in league football.
The 22-year-old has influenced the game at both ends of the field by averaging 1.0 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 0.7 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga this season. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 86.7% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
The Poissy-born sensation has just got a year left to run in his contract at the Emirates Stadium, so Mikel Arteta would be better off cashing in on him this summer or else risk losing him as a free agent next year.
Why The Gunners Need To Cut Guendouzi Loose This Summer
Guendouzi can contribute by doing a bit of everything at the centre of the park. He has decent pace in his locker and can make some energetic runs in the opponent’s half. On his day, the French sensation can create some decent openings for others around him and can strike the ball with power from long range. Guendouzi can also get stuck in with some crunching tackles and works hard towards earning possession back for his team.
At 22, Guendouzi still has plenty of time to take his game to another level and become a world-class player in his position someday. However, the French youngster has a fractured relationship with Mikel Arteta, so it is unlikely that he would get any game time if he decides to stay to play out his contract at North London next season.
All in all, it is only logical for Arsenal to cut Guendouzi loose when the transfer window reopens later this year as he is currently surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium despite his decent loan spell at Berlin this season.
