Fichajes.net has recently reported that West Ham United are keeping a close eye on Villarreal CF forward Paco Alcacer ahead of a potential move in the summer. It has been revealed that the Yellow Submarine are willing to entertain offers in the region of €25m for their prized asset which could be inviting to the Hammers as they are in dire need of a new striker after failing to land one back in January (via Fichajes.net).
Alcarer’s Up And Down Season At Villarreal
The Torrent-born attacker has experienced a season of mixed emotions at the Estadio de la Cerámica as he has struggled to be consistent in terms of his goal-scoring numbers in the final third. Alcacer has made 28 appearances for the Spanish club this term, netting ten goals and grabbing four assists across various competitions.
The 27-year-old has failed to be productive with his offensive contributions after averaging 1.7 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga and the UEFA Europa League this season. He has also been sloppy when linking up play with others around him, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 74.3% in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Alcacer is a highly versatile forward as he can operate in any position across the frontline. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a winger on either flank which would make him a useful addition to any top-flight side in England, including the Hammers.
What Will The Spanish Attacker Add To David Moyes’ Team?
Alcacer has a good football IQ that allows him to get into some promising positions in the attacking third. When he is playing well on the field, he can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal.
The 19-time Spain international is a dead-ball specialist and usually remains composed with the ball at his feet. However, he has been guilty of being inconsistent and can sometimes give away the ball cheaply in the opposition half.
West Ham boss David Moyes needs to recruit someone of Alcacer’s skillet so that he can add some cover for Michail Antonio at the London Stadium in the coming seasons. At 27, the Spaniard is currently playing at his prime and would only add more depth to Moyes’ squad.
Plus, he would also give the Hammers boss the option to play with two out-and-out strikers up top. With all things considered, Alcacer will be a shrewd acquisition for West Ham if they can find a way to get him on board during this summer transfer period.
