In a recent report, La Razon has stated that West Ham United are among several other clubs hoping to land Villarreal CF winger Samuel Chukwueze this summer. It is believed that the Hammers are willing to make a move for the Nigerian speedster but could face competition in the form of Arsenal, Everton and Atletico Madrid in pursuit of the player in this off-season (via La Razon).
Chukwueze’s Inconsistent Season At The Estadio de la Cerámica
The 21-year-old is having an up and down season with the Yellow Submarine as he has struggled to be consistent with his offensive contributions on the right side of Unai Emery’s attack. Chukwueze has featured in 36 matches for the Spanish outfit this term, scoring four goals and grabbing seven assists in various competitions.
The Umahaia-born sensation has caught the eye by averaging 1.4 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game in La Liga and the UEFA Europa League this season. However, he needs to take care of the ball a bit more if he wants to succeed at the highest level after making 76.2% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Chukwueze could be tempted with a chance to switch clubs this summer in search of some silverware in the coming seasons. West Ham might be an ideal destination for him as he will be guaranteed regular playing time under the stewardship of David Moyes.
Will Chukwueze Be A Good Fit For The Hammers?
Chukwueze is one of the quickest players in La Liga and can stretch the opposition defence by making some well-timed runs in behind them down the right flank. He can get himself into some dangerous areas in the final third and can be creative with his passing as well. Hence, the 18-time Nigeria international could be a decent choice for David Moyes to consider during this summer transfer period.
However, Chukwueze has to figure out a way to be more productive in the attacking end of the field if he wants to taste success at the highest level. The Villarreal wing wizard is good enough to add some serious competition for Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Andriy Yarmolenko for a regular starting spot in Moyes’ first team.
At 21, the Nigerian wide player is only going to get better with each season, which makes him a good fit for West Ham in the long run. Furthermore, an experienced man-manager like Moyes could be the perfect man to oversee Chukwueze’s development and nurture him into a top talent in the years to come.
