Recent reports from The Sun states that Manchester United are keen on signing Los Blancos star Lucas Vazquez in the upcoming transfer window as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to add to his options in midfield.
The Spaniard, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, is reportedly open to offers from other clubs after his contract negotiations didn’t proceed according to the plan back in March (as reported by Marca).
Vazquez’s Season At The Santiago Bernabeu
Having come through the ranks at Real Madrid, the 29-year-old is currently in his thirteenth season for the Whites. Since making his debut for the senior team in the 2015/16 season, he has featured in 237 games, winning 11 major honours for the Spanish giants.
After struggling for regular game time last season, he made innovations to his style of play to quickly fit in the right-back position. As a result, he has featured in all but seven of Real Madrid’s thirty-seven competitive matches this term. Furthermore, out of the seven matches that he has missed this term, four have been due to injury.
Going by the stats, the Spanish wide man has managed to put up some awe-inspiring numbers on the board this season – averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.5 dribbles, 1.9 key passes, and 2.8 long balls per 90 minutes across all competitions. As evident from the stats, Vazquez has been integral to Real Madrid’s entire set-up this term, be it offensive or defensive gameplay.
Is He The Right Choice For Solskjaer?
As far as tactical scenarios are concerned, playing four at the back with Vazquez instead of Wan-Bissaka against low block opponents will make much more sense as the Spaniard can add a whole new dimension to his team’s attack as compared to the Englishman who offers very little or no threat driving forward.
Besides, his versatile nature will allow him to play in any position down the right flank, thus enhancing the overall depth of Solskjaer’s squad. He might not be the most consistent player on the pitch, but his experience at the highest level will definitely help the Red Devils build a winning mentality. Hence, the board must try their level best and get the deal over the line this summer.
