In a recent report, Laola1 has mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on recruiting Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, whose future is uncertain as his contract at the Red Bull Arena is set to expire in the summer of 2022. It is believed that Spurs are ‘extremely fascinated’ by the Austrian midfielder who could be sold by the German club at the end of this campaign. When asked about his future, Sabitzer said (via Laola1),
“There is nothing against it, but nothing for it either. I am relatively neutral. I know that I am at an age where it may be the last step. That’s why I let it go through my head.”
Sabitzer’s Brilliant Form At The Red Bull Arena This Season
The 27-year-old is having another excellent season in Austrian football after producing several eye-catching performances at the heart of the Leipzig midfield. Sabitzer has participated in 33 matches for the German outfit this term, registering eight goals and six assists in all competitions.
The Wels-born sensation has given a good account of himself at both ends of the field as he is averaging 1.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 2.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga this season. He has distributed the ball relatively well, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 79.2% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
With his current deal about to run out at the end of next season, Julian Nagelsmann will have no choice but to consider cashing in on him for a cut-price fee this summer or else risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
What Will The Austria International Bring To The Table?
Sabitzer has decent pace under his belt and can make some clever runs from midfield. He has a wide range of passes in his locker and can create a few inviting chances for others around him. The 46-time Austria international can strike the ball purely and with a lot of power which makes him a potent goal-threat from long range. Sabitzer is primarily a holding midfielder as he can time his tackles well to earn possession back for his team. He can even sense the danger quickly and can often clear his lines when required.
Will Sabitzer Be The Right Choice For Tottenham?
A complete midfielder like Sabitzer would be a massive coup for the North London giants as he will add a lot of quality to their midfield department that has sometimes looked fragile this season. The Austrian sensation is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Sabitzer could potentially form a dominant midfield partnership with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele at North London in the coming seasons. All in all, he will be a great choice for Spurs to consider during this summer transfer window.
