Real Madrid locked horns with Liverpool at Anfield earlier tonight as they looked to avoid defeat on the road. Los Blancos made a solid start to the game and defended valiantly to get to the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Zinedine Zidane’s men grew into confidence in the second half and managed to grind out a 0-0 draw away at Merseyside which ensured their a place in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League where they are now set to face Chelsea in a two-legged tie.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player performed during the match against the Reds.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 8/10
The Belgian keeper made a few world-class saves to deny the Liverpool attackers a goal tonight. He was exceptional throughout the game and earned a brilliant clean sheet.
RB: Federico Valverde – 7/10
Valverde did well to fill in as a makeshift right-back. He started the game a bit nervy while up against the pace of Sadio Mane. However, he was much more solid in the second half.
CB: Eder Militao – 8/10
He was a rock at the back and made some important clearances to keep his clean sheet intact.
CB: Nacho – 8/10
Nacho won a lot of headers in the air and did enough defensively to keep the home team quiet during the 90 minutes.
LB: Ferland Mendy – 7/10
Mendy cleared his lines when needed but struggled to create any real chances in the attacking third.
CM: Luka Modric – 6/10
The Croatia international struggled to cope with the Liverpool press for most of the game and produced a disjointed performance in the opposition half.
CM: Casemiro – 7.5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace disrupted Liverpool’s rhythm in midfield but was guilty of picking up a yellow card in the first half for a reckless challenge on James Milner.
CM: Toni Kroos – 6.5/10
He tried his best to make things happen going forward but there was no assist for him tonight.
RW: Marco Asensio – 6/10
Asensio hardly got into the game and was often second-best to Andrew Roberton out on the wide areas. However, he deserves some credit for helping out his teammates at the back when needed.
ST: Karim Benzema – 5/10
Benzema failed to get himself involved in the game and missed a glorious chance to kill the tie in the second half.
LW: Vinicius Junior – 6.5/10
The Brazilian full-back was full of energy and running down the left flank but failed to cause too many problems for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Substitutes:
RB: Alvaro Odriozola – 6.5/10
Odriozola kept things tidy inside his half and did well to see out the clean sheet.
RW: Rodrygo – 6/10
He offered very little after coming off the bench.
CAM: Isco – N/A
The Spaniard did not get enough time to influence the game.
