Real Madrid have been dealt with a major injury setback in the form of right-back, Dani Carvajal. The Spaniard has picked up yet another injury this season and will miss the remainder of the campaign. Carvajal recently returned from a prolonged spell on the sidelines and is heading right back to the nursing room at Valdebebas.
It is understood that the full-back has picked up the injury during the clash against Chelsea and seemed to be in immediate discomfort. However, Carvajal continued to play for a couple of minutes before Zidane instructed Odriozola to replace him in the field of play.
This latest development must have added to the frustration of Zinedine Zidane, whose side has suffered more than 50 injury-related casualties this season alone. Real Madrid have been left with Alvaro Odriozola as the only natural full-back in the squad and that seems to be a huge gamble at such a critical stage of the competition.
Real Madrid Injury News
Odrizola had a loan spell at Bayern Munich last season where he barely made a contribution and has been warming the benches for large parts of the current season at Real Madrid. Ferland Mendy remains doubtful for the clash and might not necessarily make it to the starting eleven. This will force Nacho to play on the left-hand side of the defence.
Sergio Ramos is destined to return for this clash and he would bulldoze his way into the starting eleven for a fixture of this magnitude. Eder Militao seems like the most likely candidate to replace Carvajal at the right-back position. Prior to the Chelsea clash, Real Madrid are scheduled to meet Osasuna in the Primera Division.
The Saturday evening kick-off could give an insight into how Zidane would prepare his team for the vital UEFA Champions League clash. Real Madrid have conceded an away goal and will need to get the job done at Stamford Bridge in order to progress to the Finals.
