The Chronicle has recently reported that Newcastle United midfielder Kyle Scott has turned down a move to the Major League Soccer despite catching the eye while on trial at FC Cincinnati recently. It is understood that the Magpies midfielder was offered a two-year deal but decided to reject it as he prefers to stay in Europe (via The Chronicle).
Scott’s Failure To Taste First-Team Football At St. James’ Park
Scott’s current contract at St. James’ Park is set to run out later this year but the Tyneside outfit have the option to extend his deal for another season. The American midfield ace joined the Magpies from Chelsea back in 2019 but is yet to make his debut for Steve Bruce’s first team.
However, the 23-year-old deserves some credit for picking up one assist in four matches for Newcastle’s Under-23 team in the Premier League 2 so far. With Scott yet to taste first-team football at Tyneside, it is only logical for the player to switch clubs this summer in the hopes of some playing time in top-flight football next season.
What Are The Ex-Chelsea Youngster’s Best Attributes?
Scott has got the eye to set up some inviting chances for his teammates in the attacking third. He can keep the ball moving at the centre of the park and is proficient at making some clever runs towards the opponent’s penalty area.
However, the American talent is still unproven at the highest level, so he would be a risky option for any top-flight side in Europe to consider in this offseason. At 23, he is not a young player any more and needs regular first-team football if he wants to become a regular feature at the top level.
Does Scott Have A Future At St. James’ Park?
Scott is currently on the fringes of Steve Bruce’s squad and has shown no signs that he would be able to break into Newcastle’s senior team any time soon. Therefore, the Magpies should think about moving him on this summer when his contract at St. James’ Park comes to an end. It makes little sense for Bruce to exercise the option of extending his stay for another year unless he plans to use him sporadically in the Premier League next season. All in all, Scott seems to be living on borrowed time at Tyneside and doesn’t have a future with the Magpies beyond this summer.
