In a recent episode of the Football Social Daily Podcast, renowned journalist Matt Cunningham has urged West Ham United to recruit Jesse Lingard permanently when his loan spell from Manchester United expires at the end of this campaign. Cunningham said (transcripted by This is Futbal),
“I do hope that West Ham find a way to keep him (Lingard) permanently in the summer because I think it’d be great for his career and they’re a team that [are] pushing up the league, becoming a better side, they’ve had a fantastic season so far and he just fits perfectly, and you can see that on the pitch with the way he’s playing.”
Lingard’s Outstanding Loan Spell At East London
Lingard is having a sensational loan spell at the London Stadium and scored one of the goals of this Premier League season earlier this week when he netted the opener in the 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The English playmaker has found the back of the net on six occasions and earned four assists in 11 matches for the Hammers this term in various competitions.
The 28-year-old has performed well to average 2.9 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in the English top tier. The Warrington-born talent has also distributed the ball with conviction after making 78.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
What Does The English Sensation Bring To The Table?
Lingard is a quick and agile attacker who loves to go on driving runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area. He can set up chances for others around him and has become a consistent goal-scorer for West Ham this season.
The 27-time England international has displayed the hunger to make a difference for the Hammers recently and has established himself as one of the first names in David Moyes’ teamsheet. Plus, he is versatile enough to play in multiple positions across the frontline which makes him such a useful player at the London Stadium.
Recruiting Lingard Permanently This Summer: A No-Brainer For David Moyes?
The way Lingard has been playing of late, it is a no-brainer for the West Ham boss to try everything in his power to make his stay permanent at the English capital. Despite the English playmaker’s return to form, he won’t be a first-team starter at Old Trafford, so the player can benefit from sealing his permanent move to join the Hammers in this offseason.
