Manchester City locked horns with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium earlier today as they looked to pick up another win and continue their unrelenting march towards the Premier League title. Both sides cancelled each other out in the first half as they went into the half-time break without anything to split them.
Man City made a bright start to the second half and took the lead in the 58th minute courtesy of Benjamin Mendy’s excellent finish. Gabriel Jesus doubled his team’s advantage in the 74th minute as the Mancunian giants cruised to a 2-0 victory at the East Midlands.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the match against the Foxes.
GK: Ederson – 6.5/10
The Brazilian keeper made a couple of solid saves to keep his clean sheet intact but was a bit sloppy with his ball-distribution.
RB: Kyle Walker – 7/10
Walker defended well at the back when called into action and made one exciting run going forward.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7/10
The Portugal international made a couple of important contributions in defence and did enough to deny the Leicester attackers from scoring throughout the 90 minutes
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
The French defensive ace dealt with mostly everything that came his way on the defensive end of the field.
LB: Benjamin Mendy – 7.5/10
The French left-back kept his composure and scored the opening goal with a controlled strike with his weaker right foot. Pep Guardiola will be quite pleased with his goal today.
CM: Fernandinho – 7/10
The Brazilian midfield ace got stuck in with a few tackles to earn possession back for his team. He also won some crucial aerial duels during the game.
CM: Rodri – 7.5/10
Rodri didn’t give the Foxes attackers a moment’s rest and managed to disrupt their rhythm in the game. He made multiple interceptions and also passed the ball with a lot of conviction from midfield.
LW: Gabriel Jesus – 8/10
Jesus caused all kinds of problems for the Leicester defenders and created some meaningful openings for others around him. He also doubled Man City’s lead in the 74th minute via a tap-in.
CAM: Kevin De Bruyne – 8/10
The Belgian international bossed the game in the opposition half with his creativity and running. However, there was no goal or assist for him today.
RW: Riyad Mahrez – 7/10
He was a bit selfish at times but still deserves credit for being a constant nuisance for the Leicester defenders.
ST: Sergio Aguero – 6/10
The Argentine striker had a couple of shots but never looked like he had a goal in him.
Substitutes:
LW: Raheem Sterling – 7/10
He picked up an assist for setting up Jesus’ goal in the second half.
RW: Ferran Torres – 6/10
The Spaniard offered very little after coming off the bench.
CM: Phil Foden – N/A
The English prospect came on to run the clock down.
