In a recent report, The Daily Mail has mentioned that Leicester City are among several clubs hoping to sign PSV Eindhoven starlet Noni Madueke, who is worth around £15m. However, it is understood that the Foxes could face competition in the form of Red Bull Leipzig, LOSC Lille and AC Milan in pursuit of the English attacker (via The Daily Mail).
Madueke’s Incredible Rise At The Philips Stadion
Madueke has come through the youth ranks of PSV and deserves a lot of credit for successfully establishing himself as a key member of Roger Schmidt’s frontline. The London-born wing wizard has been involved in 29 matches for the Dutch outfit this term, netting nine goals and securing eight assists in multiple competitions.
The 19-year-old has given a good account of himself in the attacking third as he is averaging 1.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in the Dutch Eredivisie and the UEFA Europa League this season. He has even been careful when interchanging possession with his teammates in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 85.8% in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Madueke’s current contract at the Philips Stadion is set to run out in the summer of 2024, so the Foxes could find it difficult to convince PSV to sell their prized asset during the summer transfer window. However, the player could be tempted with an opportunity to return to his homeland. Furthermore, if Leicester can finish in the top four this season, Brendan Rodgers will also have the lure of Champions League football to get a deal over the line for Madueke this summer.
Is Madueke The Right Choice For The Foxes?
Madueke is a quick and agile winger who can make some dangerous runs with the ball in the final third. He is maturing into a decent playmaker and has done well to add a few goals to his game this season. Hence, he will be a brilliant option for Brendan Rodgers to consider ahead of the new campaign.
The English whizkid would add some more goals and creativity to the Foxes attack. Plus, he will also increase competition for places within Rodgers’ squad. Hence, it makes sense for the East Midlands outfit to orchestrate a move to bring Madueke to the King Power Stadium in this off-season.
At 19, Madueke is a player on the rise and has all the skill set required to compete with Harvey Barnes, James Maddison, Ayoze Perez and Marc Albrighton for a starting spot in Rodgers’ first team. The English prospect is primarily a right-sided winger but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder or play as a striker up top. His incredible versatility, pace and potential make him a great choice for the Foxes in the long run.
