Manchester City will clash heads with Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday night, hoping to pick up a positive result and proceed into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The Citizens will be heading into the contest on the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Leeds United, whereas Edin Terzic’s men recorded a thrilling 3-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
Pep Guardiola will probably opt for the 4-3-3 formation with several tweaks from the last game. Rodri might get the nod over Fernandinho, whereas Kevin De Bruyne looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.
4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup Vs Borussia Dortmund
Defence
Ederson Moraes will continue to operate in between the sticks for the upcoming away encounter. The Brazilian shot-stopper will be hoping to add to the tally of six clean sheets in eight European matches on Wednesday.
Aymeric Laporte, who failed to make the squad on Saturday due to a slight issue, is expected to be fit for the midweek clash.
Ruben Dias is expected to replace Nathan Ake and form the centre-half partnership with Aymeric Laporte at the heart of the City backline.
Joao Cancelo will replace Benjamin Mendy at the left-back position, whereas Kyle Walker will fill in on the other flank as the right-back. The full-backs will be expected to stay compact and keep their shape defensively.
Midfield
Rodri will fulfil the holding midfield position and could be assigned with more of a defensive role to shield the away side’s back-four.
Ilkay Gundogan will slot into the central midfield role, whereas Kevin De Bruyne is expected to start in the attacking midfield position. The latter was at his best in the first leg as he got his name on the scoresheet, and he’ll be hoping to repeat more of the same in midweek.
Bernardo Silva will have to settle for a place on the bench but might come on in the latter stages of the game if called upon.
Attack
Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez will take up the wide positions, playing on the left and right-wing respectively.
Gabriel Jesus will lead the line for the visitors against Borussia Dortmund. The Brazilian international will hope to get his name on the scoresheet when he faces off against the Dortmund defence that has conceded 14 goals in their last seven matches across all competitions.
