Everton entertained Crystal Palace at Goodison Park earlier this evening hoping to pick up all three points and move up the Premier League table. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first half but lacked the cutting edge in the final third as they went into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
The Toffees made a quick start to the second half and finally took the lead in the 56th minute courtesy of James Rodriguez’s low finish. However, Michy Batshuayi spoiled the party for Everton as he scored a late goal with a clinical finish. The contest ended with both sides playing out a 1-1 draw at Merseyside.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the game against the Eagles.
GK: Robin Olsen – 7/10
The Toffees keeper had to make a few important saves during the game and kept the Eagles frustrated for the majority of the game. However, Batshuayi’s late effort extinguished his hopes of a clean sheet.
CB: Michael Keane – 6/10
Keane won a lot of headers in the air and dealt with mostly everything that came his way on the defensive end of the pitch. However, he switched off for a second and got punished by Batshuayi who scored with a quality finish.
CB: Yerry Mina – 6.5/10
He made multiple clearances and passed the ball relatively well from the back. However, he won’t be happy after conceding so late in the game.
CB: Mason Holgate – 7/10
Holgate mopped up the danger quite well when required and even made a couple of essential blocks to keep the Eagles frustrated.
RM: Seamus Coleman – 8/10
Coleman was solid when defending inside his half and picked up a good assist for setting up Rodriguez’s opening goal. He got subbed in the 75th minute.
CM: Tom Davies – 6.5/10
The English midfielder managed to disrupt the opposition’s flow in the game but offered very little going forward.
CM: Andre Gomes – 6/10
He made one good chance early on but had to go off in the 30th minute because of an ankle injury.
LM: Lucas Digne – 6.5/10
The French full-back kept things tidy at the back and created quite a few decent openings for his teammates up top.
CAM: James Rodriguez – 8/10
Rodriguez was a constant nuisance for the Palace defenders and scored the opening goal with a good strike. He ran out of energy and got replaced late in the game.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6/10
He squandered some inviting chances to score but deserves credit for causing some problems for the Eagles centre-backs.
ST: Richarlison – 7/10
The Brazilian attacker was always willing to have a strike at goal and even managed to orchestrate a couple of promising chances for others around him. However, he will be disappointed for not getting his name on the scoresheet.
Substitutes:
CM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6.5/10
He had a few shots at goal and made one promising run from midfield.
CB: Ben Godfrey – 6/10
Godfrey failed to see out the three points which won’t please him.
CM: Jean-Philippe Gbamin – 6/10
He offered some energy to the Everton midfield.
