If the report from Calciomercato is believed to be true, Everton want Merih Demiral from Juventus in a part-exchange deal for Moise Kean. The young Azzurri international has revived himself at Paris Saint-Germain, and the French supergiants are in talks with the Toffees to retain his services beyond the ongoing campaign.
It’s a tricky scenario circling the 21-year-old who had a dreadful 2019-20 season at Goodison Park. He only found the net twice in 29 Premier League outings and eventually joined PSG on a season-long loan after netting twice in 2 League Cup outings earlier this term.
The Juventus prodigy showed great potential before securing a €30m (including add-0ns) switch to the blue half of Merseyside and has now regained his scoring form with 15 goals in 29 appearances donning Les Parisiens’ colours.
Why Everton Need Demiral More Than Anyone Else
Carlo Ancelotti has prolific striking options in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. But he needs serious addition in deep defence despite roping in Ben Godfrey last summer. Persistent injury problems have sidelined skipper Seamus Coleman time and again, forcing Mason Holgate to feature as a makeshift right fullback on many occasions. Yerry Mina has struggled with form and fitness concerns, and the gaffer, thus, is relying on Michael Keane alongside Godfrey as his central defensive pairing.
Why Juventus Are Willing To Re-sign Kean
Demiral, on the other hand, secured an €18m move to the Bianconeri from Sassuolo a couple of years ago. But the 23-year-old Turkish centre-half is struggling for minutes at Piedmont with Matthijs de Ligt, Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci ahead of him in the pecking order.
Although he holds a bright future ahead of him with both Chiellini and Bonucci at the twilight of their career, Juventus are prioritising Kean’s return in case Paulo Dybala or Alvaro Morata departs (as claimed by Le10 Sport).
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Toffees have set a valuation of around £60m for the in-form ‘number 9’. The amount is quite astronomical considering the financial complications in the wake of the pandemic. Apparently, the club are willing to listen to offers for Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey to generate the fund to snap up the youngster.
Everton need Demiral more than Ramsey despite previous rumours (as cited by the Mirror) of a potential swoop for the Welshman. They, therefore, must demand the Turkey international if the Old Lady welcomes a player plus cash deal in due time.
