Tuttosport has recently reported that Chelsea are locked in a three-way battle for Juventus speedster Paulo Dybala this summer. It has been revealed that the Blues will face competition in the form of Manchester United but both English clubs are currently trailing Paris Saint-Germain in the race to recruit the Argentine striker at the end of this campaign (via Tuttosport).
Dybala’s Injury Frustrations At The Allianz Stadium This Season
The Laguna Larga-born sensation is not having the best campaign at Turin as he has missed a lot of games because of a medial collateral ligament injury. Dybala has only taken part in 18 matches for the Italian club this term, netting four goals and grabbing two assists on all fronts.
Despite his injury concerns, the 27-year-old has shown his true worth by averaging 2.3 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Serie A and the UEFA Champions League this season. The Argentine attacker has even linked up play exceptionally well with others around him in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 87.9% in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Dybala’s current deal with the Turin giants expires at the end of next season, so Andrea Pirlo would be wise to cash in on him for a cut-price fee this summer or else risk losing him for free next year.
What Will The Argentine Sensation Add To Thomas Tuchel’s Side?
Dybala is one of the quickest players in Pirlo’s squad and can be an unstoppable force when he is dribbling at full swing in the opposition half. He has got a good football brain that allows him to get into some promising positions in and around the opponent’s penalty box.
The 29-time Argentina international is a decent finisher in front of goal and can also strike the ball with a lot of venom and accuracy which makes him a goal-threat from long range. However, injuries have taken a toll on his body, so there are some serious question marks over whether he would be able to be a success story in the Premier League where he might struggle to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football.
At 27, Dybala is currently playing at his prime and would add a lot of quality to Thomas Tuchel’s frontline. The Blues need to bring in more firepower up top as both Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have been inconsistent with their performances this season.
Olivier Giroud is edging closer towards the twilight years of his playing career at Stamford Bridge as well which makes it essential for Chelsea to land a forward of Dybala’s skillset during this summer transfer period. The Argentine talent has also got the experience and winning mindset to help the West London giants compete for some major silverware over the next few years.
