Bayern Munich locked horns with Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes earlier tonight as they looked to pick up a win by a two-goal margin on the road. The German giants began the game a bit off the pace and suffered an early scare when Neymar hit the crossbar. However, they scored the opening goal in the 40th minute courtesy of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s effort from close range. The Bavarian giants went into the half-time interval one goal up on the scoreline.
The visitors kept themselves in the contest but failed to net the decisive second goal. The match ended 1-0 (3-3 on aggregate) in favour of the Bundesliga outfit but they still ended up getting knocked out of the UEFA Champions League on the away goals rule.
Let’s take a look at how each Bayern Munich player performed during the match against PSG.
GK: Manuel Neuer – 7/10
Neuer made some decent saves to keep his team in the tie and did enough to secure the clean sheet away from home. However, his contributions were still not enough for Bayern to qualify.
RB: Benjamin Pavard – 6.5/10
The French full-back got stuck in with a couple of tackles and made one good run in the opposition half.
CB: Jerome Boateng – 7.5/10
The German defensive ace came to his team’s rescue on a couple of occasions and cleared his lines when required. He also passed the ball well out from the back.
CB: Lucas Hernandez – 8/10
Hernandez won the ball back quite a few times during the game and was strong in the air. He will be pleased with the clean sheet tonight.
LB: Alphonso Davies – 7/10
He made two important interceptions and was always willing to make some dangerous runs down the left flank.
CM: Joshua Kimmich – 6.5/10
Kimmich shielded his teammates well on the defensive end of the pitch and made one good chance going forward.
CM: David Alaba – 7/10
The Austrian sensation won the ball back twice in midfield and was not shy of having a shot at goal. He gave away some cheap fouls to disrupt PSG’s rhythm in the game.
RM: Leroy Sane – 8/10
The German winger caused all sorts of problems for the opposition defenders and did everything but score tonight. He completed some excellent dribbles in the final third and managed to orchestrate some decent openings for others around him.
CAM: Thomas Muller – 7/10
Muller orchestrated a few inviting opportunities for his teammates to score but never looked like he had a goal in him.
LM: Kingsley Coman – 7/10
The French winger caused a few headaches for the PSG defenders with his running but he failed to be clinical in front of goal.
ST: Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting – 7/10
Choupo-Moting got one good chance during the game and made no mistake from close range. His first-half goal turned out to be the match-winner but it was not enough for the Bavarian outfit to seal qualification.
Substitutes:
CAM: Jamal Musiala – 6/10
He hardly got a sniff at goal.
CM: Javi Martinez – N/A
Martinez did not get enough time to make an impact.
