According to El Gol Digital, Arsenal are considering a move for Takefusa Kubo. The Real Madrid starlet is currently on loan at Getafe, but it appears the Gunners have expressed their desire to sign him up on a loan deal, with Mikel Arteta particularly keen on bolstering his creative options for the upcoming campaign. The club has already been linked with a move for Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal, so Kubo could be eyed as a potential alternative.
Takefusa Kubo’s Struggles At Real Madrid
Takefusa Kubo caused a lot of waves in the market when he joined Real Madrid in 2019. It was even suggested at the time that the teenage sensation was going to emulate existing stars like Isco or Marco Asensio.
However, Kubo has had a disappointing time since, failing to impress in his loan spell at Villarreal during the first half of the campaign. He returned to Bernabeu in January but was immediately sent to Getafe on another loan spell.
Unfortunately, the youngster’s fortunes have not improved at Getafe. He has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular under Pepe Bordalas, failing to even score a single goal. As a result, the Japanese international has been mostly ignored from the starting eleven in recent weeks.
Is Kubo A Good Option For Arsenal?
Kubo’s struggles during his loan spell at Villarreal and Getafe this season doesn’t bode well for the player at all, raising questions over his credentials at the highest level of football.
It appears the 19-year-old has had difficulties in dealing with the much more physical nature of European football. As such, Kubo could struggle even further in the Premier League, which is arguably the most robust of the top five leagues in Europe.
Although Arsenal do tend to fare well with technically astute players, the lack of physicality or athleticism from Kubo could be a cause for concern. In addition, the youngster does lack experience at the highest level of football – making him quite a risky target for the north London giants.
Arsenal, though, should definitely consider taking a gamble on Kubo, if they can manage to secure the services of a proven playmaker, as the Japanese certainly cannot be entrusted with the responsibility of being the club’s main number ten.
A lot could thus depend on the club’s pursuit of Odegaard, although the north London giants are likely to pursue a bunch of other alternatives too, as Arteta continues his search for creative reinforcements.
