Liverpool will welcome Real Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday night after suffering a 3-1 loss in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie earlier this month. The Reds managed to bounce back from that defeat by claiming maximum points at home versus Aston Villa last Saturday. Hence, Jurgen Klopp would be hoping that his players can step up and raise their performance levels for this do or die showdown in Europe.
The Merseyside outfit will stick with their favorite 4-3-3 formation with Klopp expected to make one tweak to his first-team for this game. Thiago Alcantara will probably get the nod to start in the Liverpool midfield at the expense of James Milner who will drop to the bench.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Real Madrid
Defence
Alisson Becker will play in goal for the Reds after shipping in one goal versus the Villans in his last appearance. Nathaniel Phillips will continue to play along with Ozan Kabak at the heart of Klopp’s defence as they try to restrict the Madrid giants from scoring a goal in this second leg.
Trent Alexander-Arnold had a horror game against Los Blancos away in Spain but showed great character to come back strong against Aston Villa last Saturday when he scored the match-winning goal for Liverpool. The English youngster will be a guaranteed starter at right-back while Andrew Robertson looks to impress on the other side as the left-back.
Rhys Williams will be named on the bench as he provides cover for the centre-back positions.
Midfield
Thiago Alcantara could partner up with Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum as the gifted trio look to dominate the midfield battle and feed some decent through balls to the front players. All three of them will have to perform better than how they did in the first leg if the Reds are to have any chance of mounting a comeback in midweek.
James Milner, Xherdan Shaqiri and Curtis Jones will be available for selection on the bench as they wait for their opportunity to come on as the impact substitutes if needed.
Attack
Klopp could opt for the same front three that started against the Villans. Hence, we can expect to see Diogo Jota fill in on the left flank while Mohamed Salah looks to make a difference from the right. Roberto Firmino will once again spearhead the Liverpool attack up top following an impressive display on Saturday.
