Newcastle United will clash heads with Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon as they try to grind out a result on the road. The Magpies managed to play out a 1-1 draw versus Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, which will give them some confidence going into this game.
Steve Bruce will probably set his players up in a 3-4-1-2 formation and could be inclined to make one change to his first-team this weekend. Allan Saint-Maximin could get the nod to lead the line alongside Joelinton in the attacking third. Bruce will be sweating on the fitness of Callum Wilson who is a major concern ahead of this Premier League clash.
3-4-1-2 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup To Face Burnley
Defence
Martin Dubravka will feature in goal for the Magpies after shipping in two goals versus Spurs last weekend. Bruce will opt for a back three of Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett as the defensive trio focus on keeping Burnley’s Matěj Vydra and Chris Wood quiet throughout the 90 minutes.
Ciaran Clark will offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.
Midfield
Sean Longstaff and Jonjo Shelvey will anchor the midfield for the Magpies as they look to make life difficult for the Clarets at the centre of the park. Matt Ritchie will be a nailed-on starter down the left flank while Jacob Murphy fills in on the other side as the right wing-back.
Miguel Almiron will get the license to operate as a free-flowing, attacking midfielder in the opposition half. He will be responsible for making some late runs into the opponent’s penalty box.
Jeff Hendrick and Joe Willock will be available for selection on the bench but might come on to influence the game in the second half if required.
Attack
Callum Wilson is unlikely to be rushed back for this game, so Allan Saint-Maximin will lead the charge alongside Joelinton up top. Both of them need to figure out a way to be productive in the final third if Newcastle are to come out on top this weekend.
Dwight Gayle will have to be content with a place on Bruce’s bench as he waits for his chance to shine in the latter stages if the Magpies are in need of a goal.
