In a recent report, The Daily Express has revealed that Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to face competition from Manchester United for Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba. It is believed that Wolves are one of the clubs keeping tabs on the Burkina Faso international’s development at the BayArena (via The Daily Express).
Tapsoba’s Excellent Form In German Football This Season
Tapsoba is having a solid season in Germany after producing a series of commanding displays at the heart of Peter Bosz’s defence. The 22-year-old has participated in 30 matches for Leverkusen this term, scoring two goals in the process on all fronts.
The Ouagadougou-born prospect has caught the eye by averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 2.5 clearances, 0.6 shots and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Europa League. Tapsoba has also been exceptional when distributing possession out from defence as he has made 89.5% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
The ex-Liga NOS talent deserves a pat on the back for giving a good account of himself and showing some signs of maturity with his performances for the German outfit so far. Hence, he could prove to be a welcome addition to the Wolves’ squad if Nuno Espirito Santo decides to bring him to the Molineux Stadium in the summer.
What Does the Burkina Faso International Bring To The Table?
Tapsoba has got enough pace in his locker to make some recovering runs at the back and can use his powerful 1.94m frame to outmuscle the opposition and win some crucial aerial duels for his side. He is a decent tackler of the ball and has the hunger to earn possession back on the defensive end of the pitch.
The 12-time Burkina Faso international is quite aggressive with his challenges and can even pass the ball immaculately inside his half. He is a threat from dead-ball situations because of his aerial dominance but still has a lot to learn before he can become a world-class asset in his position someday.
Is Tapsoba The Right Fit For Wolves?
Tapsoba will fit into Nuno Espirito Santo’s playing style quite well because of his ball-playing ability and could bolster the quality of the Wolves’ starting XI. At 22, he is only going to get better with each season and could undeniably increase competition for places within the West Midlands club. All in all, Tapsoba might prove to be a shrewd signing for Wolves as he has the potential to become a future starter at the Molineux for years to come.
