Calciomercato has recently stated that West Ham United are in the running to land Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey. It has been reported that the Welsh midfield ace is eyeing a return to the Premier League and fancies a move to West Ham along with Liverpool despite being under contract at the Allianz Stadium until the summer of 2023 (via Calciomercato).
Ramsey’s Season At The Allianz Stadium So Far
It has been a season of mixed emotions for the 30-year-old as he has missed some key fixtures because of multiple injuries. He is currently sidelined with a thigh problem but deserves some praise for scoring a couple of goals and securing five assists across all fronts.
Ramsey has done well to influence the game in both halves based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 1.3 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in Serie A football this season. The former Premier League midfield ace has been careful when distributing the ball, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 86.6% in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The Welshman has struggled to establish himself as a top performer for Juve this season, so he might be tempted if given an opportunity to seal a move back to the Premier League, where he has previously enjoyed a fruitful spell during his time at Arsenal.
What Will The Wales International Add To David Moyes’ Side?
Ramsey can still be a joy to watch when he is given the freedom to express himself as a box to box midfielder. He is a good dribbler with the ball and can make some encouraging sprints towards the opponent’s penalty box. The 61-time Wales international can read the game well and excels at playing a wide variety of passes from midfield. However, he has to figure out a way to be more productive in the attacking third if he intends to rediscover himself as a world-class player in Europe.
A midfield of Ramsey’s experience and skill set could be a massive coup for the Hammers if they can convince the player to make a switch to the London Stadium in this off-season. At 30, the Welsh sensation has still got plenty of football left in his locker as long as he can keep himself fit for regular first-team football in the coming seasons.
Ramsey has all the attributes required to be a success story at East London and could form a great midfield partnership with Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in the upcoming campaign. However, his poor injury-record makes him a risky option for Moyes to consider during the summer transfer period.
