In a recent media segment, Bild’s Christian Falk has provided an update on Everton‘s pursuit of Norwich City full-back Max Aarons. The renowned journalist has claimed that the negotiations for the talented full-back are still ‘ongoing’ (translated and transcripted by Sport Witness). Falk said,
“That’s true, at least the negotiations with Everton being ongoing.”
Aarons’ Magnificent Season In The EFL Championship So Far
Aarons is enjoying a brilliant season at Carrow Road after establishing himself as a consistent performer in Daniel Farke’s first-team. The London-born sensation has made 37 appearances for the Canaries this term, registering one goal and three assists in various competitions.
The 21-year-old deserves a lot of plaudits for averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 0.6 shots, 1.4 key passes, 0.8 crosses and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 83.4% in the English second division (stats via whoscored).
The way Aarons has been playing this season, it is no surprise that Everton are trying to get a deal done for him as he is a player on the rise and could serve as an ideal long-term successor to Seamus Coleman, who is entering the last years of his playing career.
What Will The English Right-Back Add To Carlo Ancelotti’s Side?
Aarons has proven himself to be a reliable defender inside his half and can clear his lines when in danger of being exposed at the back. He is a quick and agile full-back who can complete some promising dribbles down the right-wing.
The seven-time England Under-21 international can also get himself to the byline to whip in a few dangerous crosses into the opponent’s penalty area. Aarons is even versatile enough to fill in as a left-back if needed which makes him such a valuable member of the Norwich squad. At 21, he has got plenty of time to fulfil his true potential. Still, there are some question marks over whether Aarons can maintain his high standards in the Premier League, where he has previously struggled to find consistency with the Canaries.
Recruiting someone as talented as Aarons will be a massive coup for the Toffees if they can convince the player to make a switch to Goodison Park at the end of this campaign. He is maturing into a decent right-back and would add a lot of long-term value to Ancelotti’s squad. Furthermore, Aarons has the potential to become a top player in his position someday, so he could fill the right-spot at the blue half of Merseyside for years to come.
