In a recent print edition, La Repubblica has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are facing fierce competition for Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic. It is understood that Spurs will have to rival Borussia Dortmund, West Ham United and Real Madrid in pursuit of the Serbian attacker this summer (transcripted and translated by Sport Witness).
Vlahovic’s Impressive Form At The Stadio Artemio Franchi
The 21-year-old has been playing some of the best football of his young career for the Florence outfit this season as he has been responsible for putting in some eye-catching displays as the primary centre-forward in Cesare Prandelli’s first-team.
The Belgrad-born prospect has netted 12 goals and bagged two assists in 30 matches for the Italian club this term across multiple competitions. However, Vlahovic needs to be a bit more productive in the attacking third because he is only averaging 2.3 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in this Serie A campaign. He has also been sloppy when linking up play with others around him after making 66.6% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
The former Partizan youngster could be tempted with the opportunity to move to the Premier League, especially if Spurs can afford to offer him regular game time at the English capital next season.
What Will The Serbian Youngster Bring To North London?
Vlahovic can make himself useful by using his strong 1.90m to outmuscle the opposition and be a solid presence in the air. He can hold the ball up for others around him and excels at making a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target.
The four-time Serbia international can strike the ball with a lot of venom, which makes him a constant menace for the opposition centre-backs. However, he is quite inexperienced at the top level and needs to work on improving his passing in the final third.
Is Vlahovic The Right Fit For Tottenham?
If the North London giants are not able to keep hold of Harry Kane beyond this summer, Vlahovic could be a good fit for Jose Mourinho’s team as he has the potential to become a future star in European football.
It seems like Tottenham are in for another period of transition if they lose their captain at the end of this campaign. Hence, Mourinho would be wise to give Vlahovic a chance to prove his worth in the Premier League as he will add some healthy competition for Carlos Vinicius in the coming seasons. Even if Mourinho can somehow find a way to retain Kane’s services, the Spurs boss should still think about engineering a move to bring Vlahovic to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in this off-season as he will undeniably enhance the overall depth of his squad.
