In a season that has not offered much to cheer for the Camp Nou faithful, there certainly have been individual moments of genius from several Barcelona players that have kept the club alive domestically in the Primera Division and the Copa del Rey. It will be interesting to see if the Catalans are successful in averting another season without silverware from this point in the season to the end. The 4th Official lists out three Barcelona players who have put in their heart and soul while playing irrespective of the circumstances –
Lionel Messi
After a rather slow start to the season, Lionel Messi has garnered the pace and seems to be on course to winning another top goal-scorers trophy. The Argentine has already scored 23 goals in La Liga itself with a further eight assists to his credit. The consistency has been maintained in the UEFA Champions League as well with five goals in just six matches. The player has been the backbone of this Barcelona team for several years now and it will be nearly impossible for the Catalans to find someone to fill into the boots of Lionel Messi. Messi deserves a huge chunk of the credit for Barcelona’s unbeaten run in the Primera Division since the turn of the year.
Marc Andre Ter Stegen
Marc Andre Ter Stegen has become an inseparable part of the Barcelona team since his switch in 2014. In his seven-year-long Barcelona career, Ter Stegen has saved and bailed out the Cules on countless occasions. This current season has been no different for the shot-stopper. Ter Stegen has kept clean-sheets in 1/3rd of the matches he has started this season. The player’s most remarkable performance came in recently against Sevilla when Ter Stegen stopped a crucial penalty which enabled his side to seal their place in the final of the Copa del Rey.
Pedri
The player arrived in the side with very little information available to his transfer and has since then become one of the best signings the club has made in recent history. Pedri has shown the temperament and composure of a seasoned midfielder in just his debut season at Camp Nou. It is hard to explain the sort of ease and calmness which Pedri enjoys while playing. Another thing that has got him along well with the Catalan supporters is the fact that Pedri has developed some fascinating chemistry with Lionel Messi which is extremely hard to defend against. In his maiden season at the Catalan capital, Pedri has scored thrice and assisted thrice, making over thirty appearances in the process.
