Barcelona’s thumping victory against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey semi-final has lifted the team in many ways and given the team a fresh breath of air. However, one positive result cannot make the Camp Nou faithful overlook all the poor performances that have ensued the entire season.
Injuries and poor form have ensured that the Catalans have dropped points in the La Liga title race with consistency. It is never too late to shake things up a bit. With the business end of the season approaching, it is time for a few Barcelona players to pull up their socks. The 4th Official lists out two Barcelona players who need to buckle up with immediate effect –
Barcelona’s Weaklinks This Season
Antoine Griezmann
Barcelona laid their trust in Griezmann when they let Luis Suarez leave last summer. However, things have not gone to plan and the striker has failed to fill into the boots of the Uruguayan striker. Despite making 24 appearances this season, Griezmann has only contributed with six goals and six assists. More importantly, the player has failed to deliver the goods when it has been the most important for Ronald Koeman’s side. With less than half the season left, it’s high time that Griezmann starts to deliver the performances for the Camp Nou side. The club are crippled financially and might not think twice to let go of the French World Cup winner to ease the load on the currently exorbitant wage bill.
Sergino Dest
It is certainly not about filling into the shoes of Dani Alves, however, Sergino Dest has been far from satisfactory with his performances this season. The summer signing has not been up to the mark down the right-hand side and has even made a few fundamental errors. When Sergi Roberto picked up a lengthy injury, it seemed like just the perfect moment for Dest to step in. Dest has been unable to make the most of the opportunity at his hand. If the young defender does not get his issues fixed by the end of the season, Barcelona might consider looking for options to recruit in the summer.
