Southampton faced off against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium earlier this afternoon, hoping to secure a victory and progress into the semifinals of the FA Cup. The Saints looked dangerous in the first half and took the lead in the 37th minute via Moussa Djenepo’s goal. Nathan Redmond doubled his team’s advantage in the first-half injury time courtesy of a clinical finish.
Redmond netted his second goal in the 59th minute when he found the back of the net from a rebound to put daylight between the two teams. Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men cruised to an impressive 3-0 win today, which kept their dreams of winning the FA Cup alive.
Let’s take a look at how each Southampton player performed during the clash against the Cherries.
GK: Fraser Forster – 8/10
The English keeper made quite a few solid saves to deny the Cherries from scoring a goal during the 90 minutes.
RB: Kyle Walker-Peters – 8/10
Walker-Peters dealt with everything that came his away on the defensive end of the field. He was excellent when clearing the danger and also made a good chance in the opposition half.
CB: Jan Bednarek – 7/10
He was strong in the air and made a couple of crucial interceptions for his team. However, he was guilty of being a bit sloppy when passing the ball to his teammates.
CB: Jannik Vestergaard – 7.5/10
Vestergaard kept a good shape at the back and did enough work defensively to keep a clean sheet during his time on the field.
LB: Ryan Bertrand – 7/10
The English left-back didn’t put a foot wrong in the game inside his half and had a couple of lively moments in the final third.
LM: Moussa Djenepo – 7.5/10
Djenepo opened the goal-scoring for the Saints in the 37th minute, which gave his teammates the ideal platform to go on and claim the victory.
CM: Ibrahima Diallo – 7/10
He disrupted Bournemouth’s flow in the game at the centre of the park and showed some signs of promise in the attacking third. He was also excellent with his ball-distribution from midfield.
CM: James Ward-Prowse – 7/10
The English midfield ace won the ball back a couple of times for his side and was not shy of having a shot at goal.
RM: Stuart Armstrong – 8.5/10
Armstrong caused all kinds of problems for the Cherries defenders and ended the game with an assist to his name.
ST: Nathan Redmond – 9.5/10
Redmond was unforgiving in front of the Bournemouth goal and scored a goal in each half while also picking up an assist for setting up Djenepo’s opening goal. He deserves to be named the man of the match for his excellent productivity today.
ST: Che Adams – 7/10
He had a goal disallowed by VAR but deserves credit for setting up two good openings for his teammates in the final third.
Substitutes:
CB: Jack Stephens – 6/10
Stephens kept things tidy at the back.
CB: Mohammed Salisu – 6.5/10
He came off the bench to see out the win with the clean sheet intact.
LM: Nathan Tella – N/A
Tella hardly had any time to influence the game.
RB: Kayne Ramsay – N/A
He got some valuable minutes under his belt.
ST: Dan Nlundulu – N/A
The 22-year-old came on to run the clock down for his side.
