Manchester United locked horns with Manchester City at the Etihad earlier tonight as they looked to secure a positive result on their travels. The Red Devils ended Manchester City’s 21-match-winning streak as Bruno Fernandes, and Luke Shaw scored in either half to hand over the visitors a tidy 2-0 victory against the noisy neighbours. The result has certainly lifted the visitors back into second place; however, they remain 11 points behind Pep Guardiola’s men.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the clash against the Citizens.
Dean Henderson – 8/10
The City frontmen tested the English shot-stopper on several occasions, but he passed them with flying colours. He now has 5 clean sheets in his last five games.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7/10
Wan-Bissaka did well to contain Raheem Sterling throughout the ninety minutes. He wasn’t too active attacking-wise but did his defensive duties exceptionally well.
Victor Lindelof – 7/10
The Swedish centre-back hardly put a foot wrong throughout the game. He made some crucial blocks and interceptions to help his side secure a clean sheet tonight.
Harry Maguire – 7.5/10
The skipper dominated aerially and defended aggressively. He made some important challenges in the box.
Luke Shaw – 8.5/10
The in-form English full-back went close to scoring around the 4-minute-mark and finally found the back of the net in the 50th minute. Besides, he made some good supporting runs to help his team during counters and dropped back to defend whenever required.
Fred – 7/10
The Brazilian midfielder intercepted some key passes in the opposition half. His defensive performance was decent as well.
Scott McTominay – 7.5/10
The Scottish international mostly stayed in his own half and shielded the backline effectively. He was not afraid of putting in challenges to win the ball back for his side.
Marcus Rashford – 7/10
The Englishman looked quite threatening during the counter-attacks as his pace and slick movement created menace for the City defenders.
Bruno Fernandes – 8/10
The Portuguese playmaker did well to convert from the spot in the 2nd minute. He also sprayed some good passes forward, but perhaps, his teammates were not always on the same wavelength as him.
Daniel James – 6.5/10
The Welsh international remained anonymous on the right-flank for the majority of the match.
Anthony Martial – 6.5/10
The Frenchman won the penalty in the first minute but hardly affected the game after that. He didn’t get too much time on the ball as City dominated possession, but he didn’t look too convincing on the counters either. He missed a sitter in the second-half as well.
SUBSTITUTES:
Mason Greenwood – 6/10
The 19-year-old provided the visitors with some extra energy going forward.
Nemanja Matic – N/A
It was too late when he came on.
Brandon Williams – N/A
The young left-back replaced Fernandes in the 93rd minute.
