In a recent report, The Daily Star has revealed that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Manchester City youngster Liam Delap, who is the son of former Stoke City full-back Rory Delap. It is understood that Los Blancos scouts have been left impressed by the English striker’s development at Manchester and are weighing up a move to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium (via The Daily Star).
Delap’s Rapid Rise In English Football
Delap has come through the youth ranks of Derby County before going on to join Man City back in 2019. He has since caught the eye and has done well to get three senior appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side under his belt, scoring once in the process thus far.
The 18-year-old is enjoying a terrific season for Man City’s Under-23 side as he has banged in 20 goals and provided four assists in 15 matches in the Premier League 2. Delap has established himself as one of English football’s top young forwards, so it is no surprise that a club of Real Madrid’s size are monitoring his development at the Etihad Stadium.
The Winchester-born has the potential to become a world-class striker someday, so he would be a major coup for Zinedine Zidane if he can lure him to the Spanish capital when the transfer window reopens later this summer.
What Does The English Centre-Forward Bring To The Table?
Delap is a moderately paced striker but can time his runs well in behind the opposition backline. He has proven himself to be a deadly finisher in the final third as he remains composed under pressure and has got the hunger to score goals at a high rate for his side.
However, the English striker still has a lot to learn before he is ready to feature at the senior level week in week out. Delap is quite raw and inexperienced, so Zidane would have to be patient with his progress if he can land him this summer.
Is Delap A Star In The Making?
The Man City whizkid is undoubtedly a prospect to look out for in the future as he has the potential to become a generational talent. Therefore, the Madrid giants should try everything they can to get a deal done for the English starlet.
However, Zidane might find it difficult to convince the youngster to make a switch away from his homeland. Furthermore, Delap is under contract at Man City until the summer of 2023, which would make it tough for Los Blancos to recruit him this summer.
