Bayern Munich have finally landed their man. It has been confirmed that German champions Bayern Munich have agreed terms to sign Omar Richards from English Championship side Reading. Richards will make the move in July on a free transfer after his contract expires in the summer.
The 23-year-old passed his medical and is set to agree to sign for the Bavarians on a four-year contract.
It is understood that Bayern have scouted Richards for some time now before finally playing his move. The left-back was promoted to the Reading first team in 2017, where he has made a total of 92 appearances and scored three goals in all competitions.
Richards will deputise Alphonso Davies at left-back, and he’ll be expected to be drafted into the first team for cup assignments, with Bayern competing in domestic and continental assignments. He is a versatile player who can play comfortably further up the pitch, which gives coach Hansi Flick many options up front.
Enthusiasts of soccer betting have plenty lined up for them, as Bayern Munich push for another title haul after an incredible 2019/20 season. They emerged the Bundesliga champions, won the UEFA Champions League, the German Cup, and the World Club Championship. They are the favourites with Betway to retain the two domestic trophies and among the projected winners of the UCL.
Coach Hansi Flick has assembled a formidable side over the short period he’s been at the capital, and the addition of Omar Richards shows his plans for the club. To some, signing Richards was a shock move, given he has not played top-tier football.
The economic effects of Covid-19 have been felt across the sports industry, and getting a signing of Richards calibre is a welcome move. He joins the Bundesliga champions on a free transfer, and at 23, time is on his side to grow in Germany. There must have been good qualities that convinced the Bayern board to go for him, and we can only wait and see how it turns out.
Bayern Munich lead the Bundesliga standings with 52 points after 23 matches, only two ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig. They welcome perennial rivals Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena on Saturday before a tricky away tie at Werder Bremen on March 13. All Bundesliga matches are available for betting on Betway, your leading bookmaker with the best odds and the most extensive market variety.
The Bavarians will welcome Lazio on March 17 for the return leg of the last 16 in the UEFA Champions League. In the first leg, the champions trounced the Italians 4-1 to all but book a place in the next round.
Meanwhile, Omar Richards’ immediate task before moving to Munich is to push Reading to a decent finish in the Championship. They currently sit at fifth after 34 matches, six points behind Brentford at second. The top two teams in the Championship qualify automatically for the Premier League, while four teams finishing in the top six battle it out in the competitive play-offs. If Richards can help his side to automatic qualification or even get through the play-offs, it would be a decent goodbye to the Royals.
