In a recent report, The Chronicle has mentioned that Newcastle United midfielder Kyle Scott could seal a permanent move to the Major League Soccer this summer. The Magpies talent has impressed while on trial at FC Cincinnati recently with his current contract at St. James’ Park set to expire at the end of this campaign. Even though Newcastle have the option to extend his deal for another year, it is understood that they are unlikely to do so (via The Chronicle).
Scott’s Inability To Break Into Newcastle’s First-Team
Since arriving from Chelsea back in 2019, Scott has failed to break into Steve Bruce’s first-team but has put in some solid performances for Newcastle’s Under-23 team this season. The Bath-born talent has made four appearances for the Magpies U-23 side in the Premier League 2, picking up one assist in the process.
The 23-year-old has not done enough to justify a place in Bruce’s match-day squad and seems to be surplus to requirements at St. James’ Park. Hence, it is only fair to the player if the Tyneside outfit allows him to leave in search of more playing opportunities back in his homeland.
What Does The United States Midfield Ace Offer On The Pitch?
Scott has got good balance and agility to make some promising runs with the ball from midfield. He can also create plays for others around him and is a tidy passer of the ball. However, the two-time United States Under-20 international is nowhere near good enough to play in the Premier League week in week out. At 23, Scott still has plenty of time to turn his career around for the better but for that to happen, he needs to switch clubs in the hopes of earning more game time in the coming seasons.
Should The Magpies Let Scott Leave This Summer?
Currently, Bruce has no need to keep hold of Scott as he is not ready to play for his senior team. The Magpies should rather let him go when his contract runs out in the summer and bring in a new face to bolster their squad for the new campaign.
A lot of Newcastle’s transfer decisions will depend on whether they can retain their top-flight lives for another season. However, as far as Scott is concerned, the Magpies would be better off parting ways with him during the summer transfer window even if they get relegated.
