In a recent report, Calciomercato has claimed that Newcastle United could face serious competition in the race to land Juventus defender Radu Dragusin. However, it is believed that the Magpies will have to battle it out with Crystal Palace, Red Bull Leipzig and Wolfsburg in pursuit of the Romanian centre-half (via Calciomercato).
Dragusin’s Lack Of Playing Time In Senior Football This Season
The 19-year-old has endured a tough season at the Allianz Stadium after failing to earn any significant game time under Andrea Pirlo’s stewardship. He has made just four senior appearances for the Turin giants this term, earning a total of 231 minutes of playing time in the process across all fronts.
Dragusin caught the eye with his performance against SPAL in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals as Juve emerged victorious with a 4-0 scoreline. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and needs to earn regular first-team football if he wants to develop into a world-class defender someday. St. James’ Park could be an ideal destination for the Romanian youngster in the summer as Newcastle boss Steve Bruce can offer him the luxury of becoming a valuable member of his match-day squad.
What Does The Romanian Prospect Bring To The Table?
Standing at 1.91m, Dragusin can be a powerful presence on the defensive end of the field as he can often outmuscle the opposition to win some important aerial duels for his team. He can be quite an erratic defender but has shown a few signs of promise with the limited game time he has received at Juventus this season.
The Romanian sensation usually reads the danger well and has got the hunger to make some crucial interceptions at the back. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to develop into a first-team starter at the top level.
Is Dragusin The Right Choice For Newcastle?
Bruce has to add more depth to his squad if he wants his side to compete across all competitions in the coming seasons. Hence, recruiting an up-and-coming talent like Dragusin could be a shrewd move as he will be a signing for the long-run.
The Magpies have currently got Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark as their first-choice centre-halves in the injury absence of Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez. Maybe adding some competition for them would be the way to go if Newcastle can get themselves out of relegation trouble this season. With all things considered, Dragusin could be a decent choice for the Tyneside giants despite the Juve defender’s inexperience as he has the potential to become a future star in European football.
