In a recent report, Corriere Dello Sport has stated that Manchester United are positioning themselves to recruit Milan Skriniar who could be sold by Inter Milan as they are struggling to settle their debts with the Red Devils over the transfer of Romelu Lukaku. It is believed that the Slovakia international is one of the players Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be interested in signing this summer (via Corriere Dello Sport).
Skriniar’s Solid Season In Italian Football
Skriniar has enjoyed another dominant season at San Siro as he has been responsible for putting in a run of commanding displays at the heart of the Inter backline. The former Sampdoria defensive ace has participated in 27 matches for the Milan giants this term, scoring two goals in the process on all fronts.
The 26-year-old has given a good account of himself on the defensive end of the pitch based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has been excellent when building up plays from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 92% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Man United need to add more quality to their defensive department after leaking in 32 goals in 27 league matches which have derailed their hopes for the Premier League title. Skriniar fits the bill perfectly as he has both the quality and experience to be a success story at Old Trafford in the years to come.
What Will The Slovakia International Add To Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Team?
Standing at 1.88m, Skriniar is strong in the air as he has got the strength to overpower the opposition and be a dominant force inside his penalty area. He is often quick to react to the danger and is not shy of clearing his lines when needed. Skriniar even possesses the tenacity to win possession back for his team.
The 33-time Slovakia international can also time his tackles well and is a decent passer of the ball. At 26, he is currently entering the prime stage of his playing career, so Solskjaer can expect to get the best out of him in the coming seasons if he can get a deal done for him during the summer transfer period.
Skriniar will arguably be an upgrade over any of Man United’s current centre-back options, including Harry Maguire, who has been guilty of being inconsistent this season. With all things considered, Solskjaer would be wise to bring the Slovak defender to the Premier League when the transfer window reopens later this year. He will add plenty of bite and steel to the Red Devils backline and could help them compete for multiple trophies in the future.
