Manchester United faced off against West Ham United at Old Trafford earlier tonight as they looked to pick up a positive result at home. Both sides cancelled each other out in the first half and went into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
The Red Devils finally managed to break the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Craig Dawson scored an unfortunate own goal. Man United kept pushing in search of the decisive second goal and went close to scoring when Mason Greenwood hit the crossbar. The contest finished with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men securing a hard-fought 1-0 win at the Theatre of Dreams.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the clash against the Hammers.
GK: Dean Henderson – 6.5/10
The English keeper was hardly troubled during the game and kept an easy clean sheet tonight. However, he could have passed the ball a bit better during the game.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7/10
Wan-Bissaka didn’t put a foot wrong at the back and managed to create a couple of decent openings in the final third.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 7/10
The Swedish centre-back dealt with mostly everything that came his way on the defensive end of the field. He will be satisfied with the clean sheet.
CB: Harry Maguire – 7.5/10
Maguire was a commanding presence inside his half and made multiple clearances throughout the match to get over the line with the shutout in the bag.
LB: Luke Shaw – 7/10
Defensively, he had a solid game and did well to restrict the Hammers from scoring a goal. At the other end, Shaw engineered two inviting chances from the left flank.
CM: Scott McTominay – 8/10
The Scottish midfielder disrupted the opposition’s flow in the game and bossed the midfield battle. McTominay’s glancing header saw the ball deflect off Craig Dawson into an empty net which was the difference between the two sides tonight.
CM: Fred – 6.5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace did a bit of everything at both ends of the field and was excellent with his ball-distribution.
RM: Daniel James – 7/10
James showed great energy to make some direct runs with the ball but didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 7.5/10
The Portuguese playmaker caused all sorts of problems for the West Ham defenders and was unlucky not to find the back of the net with all of the chances he got.
LM: Marcus Rashford – 6.5/10
He created a couple of decent opportunities during the clash but was a bit wasteful in the attacking third.
ST: Mason Greenwood – 7/10
Greenwood was not shy of having a strike at goal and was quite unfortunate to hit the crossbar late in the game.
