Manchester United locked horns with AC Milan at the San Siro earlier tonight as they looked to grind out a win and qualify into the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League. The Red Devils kept pushing for the opening goal in the first half but did not manage to break the Italian side down as they went into the half-time break all level on the scoreline.
However, Paul Pogba gave Man United a dream start to the second half as he scored a good goal from a tight angle in the 48th minute. The Frenchman’s goal turned out to be the only one in the game as the Mancunian giants secured a vital 1-0 win tonight away in Italy (2-1 on aggregate).
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the clash against AC Milan.
GK: Dean Henderson – 7.5/10
The English goalie made a few important saves to deny the Milan attackers from scoring during the 90 minutes. However, he was a bit sloppy when distributing possession out from the back.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7/10
Wan-Bissaka kept a solid shape inside his half and was lively in the AC Milan half as well.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 7.5/10
The Swedish centre-half hardly put a foot wrong in the match and defended valiantly to keep a clean sheet. He won the ball back several times for his side and also cleared the danger when required.
CB: Harry Maguire – 7.5/10
Just like his centre-back partner, Maguire had a great game on the defensive end of the field. He was dominant in the air and made some crucial defensive contributions for his team.
LB: Luke Shaw – 6.5/10
He kept things tidy at the back but struggled to influence the game consistently in the final third.
CM: Fred – 7.5/10
The Brazilian midfielder worked his socks off to protect his teammates in defence and also had a bright game going forward.
CM: Scott McTominay – 7/10
McTominay showed great desire to earn possession back for his side and deserves credit for disrupting AC Milan’s flow in the game.
LW: Marcus Rashford – 6/10
He made a couple of encouraging runs in the first half and was taken off at half-time.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 7/10
Fernandes created two good chances for his teammates to score and also pulled off some promising dribbles in the attacking third.
RW: Daniel James – 7/10
James engineered a couple of meaningful openings in the opposition half but never looked like he would score during the game.
ST: Mason Greenwood – 7/10
The English youngster had a few exciting moments in the final third but didn’t do enough to find the back of the net.
Substitutes:
LW: Paul Pogba – 8/10
Pogba came off the bench at half-time and scored a fine goal in the 48th minute which made the difference between the two sides in the tie.
