Manchester City entertained Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium earlier this evening, hoping to stretch their incredible winning run across all competitions. The home side made a nightmare start to this game as they conceded a penalty which Bruno Fernandes converted to put the Red Devils ahead in the second minute. Man City struggled to get themselves back into the game and went into the half-time interval one goal down.
Man United doubled their lead in the 50th minute when Luke Shaw found the back of the net. Pep Guardiola’s men couldn’t manage to take any of their chances and ended up being beaten by a 2-0 scoreline at home in the Manchester derby.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player fared during the match against the Red Devils.
GK: Ederson – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper made some important saves to keep his team in the game. However, he will be disappointed after conceding a goal in each half today.
RB: Joao Cancelo – 5.5/10
The Portuguese full-back produced a disjointed display at both ends of the pitch and got taken off after the hour mark.
CB: John Stones – 6.5/10
He won quite a few aerial duels and was tidy when distributing possession out from the back.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7/10
Dias made some crucial interceptions for his team and was strong in the air as well. Still, conceding two goals won’t make him happy.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 6.5/10
Zinchenko won the ball back on a couple of occasions and even managed to create two good chances in the Man United half.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 7/10
The Belgian international engineered plenty of meaningful opportunities for his teammates to score but was guilty of squandering some decent chances himself.
CM: Rodri – 6.5/10
Rodri was defensively solid and even managed to cause a few problems for the opposition going forward. However, he could have done better to prevent Shaw from scoring early in the second half.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 6.5/10
He orchestrated a few inviting chances for others around him but was not clinical enough in front of the Red Devils goal.
RW: Riyad Mahrez – 7/10
The Algerian wing wizard was a constant menace for the Man United defenders but didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 5/10
In the second minute, he conceded a poor penalty, which put his team on the backfoot throughout the remainder of the game. He was not good enough to redeem himself and got substituted in the second half.
LW: Raheem Sterling – 5.5/10
The English speedster had some bright moments but was lacklustre in the attacking third.
Substitutes:
RB: Kyle Walker – 6/10
Walker brought some energy onto the field.
CAM: Phil Foden – 5/10
He hardly got a sniff at goal.
