Kennedy To Make One Change? | Predicted 4-1-2-1-2 Celtic Lineup To Face Dundee United

Celtic enjoyed a winning start to life under John Kennedy who was handed the interim role following Neil Lennon’s exit as the Parkhead chief. But they have little to play for in the league and a win against Dundee United this weekend would only hand them an opportunity to spoil Rangers’ party before the latter conquer the silverware drawing an end to the Hoops’ decade-long supremacy in Scottish football.

The Tangerines, on the other hand, have done well after gaining promotion last year. They are likely to avoid a relegation scare and settle for a midtable finish unless any drastic downfall. Although a 4-1 defeat to Rangers followed by a 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock derailed their momentum, Micky Mellon must motivate his men to secure a result at Tannadice making the most of Celtic’s shambolic run of form.

Defence

The Bhoys have underperformed all over the pitch and that also includes Vasilis Barkas, who failed to justify his reputation between the sticks. Lennon opted to restore Scott Bain in goal and the new boss must retain the same with the Scotsman offering enough stability of late.

Celtic were spot on to rope in Jonjoe Kenny on loan from Everton to succeed Jeremie Frimpong. The right fullback should retain his place, whereas the central defensive pairing of Stephen Welsh and Kristoffer Ajer is showing promises. AC Milan loanee Diego Laxalt should start from the left due to Greg Taylor’s injury blow that saw the young left-back leaving the pitch against Ross County a couple of weeks ago.

Midfield

A midfield diamond brought them some success in recent weeks and Kennedy, thus, must not experiment much in his initial days. Skipper Scott Brown, still irreplaceable deep down the pitch, would offer his physicality and combativity to dominate the space and possession, also the presence of Callum McGregor would be crucial for his work rate and ball-carrying ability. Ryan Christie, still not at his best, might operate from the right due to James Forrest’s fitness concerns and the gaffer should stick to David Turnbull as a ‘number 10’ for being their shining light in a gloomy season overall.

Attack

Odsonne Edouard is leading the golden boot race with 16 goals to his name, but the Hoops could not figure out his striking partner who is capable of spearheading the attack with great efficiency. None of Leigh Griffiths, Patryk Klimala or Albian Ajeti grabbed the attention and Kennedy, thus, should give a nod to Mohamed Elyounoussi who might offer a bit more flexibility and variation in the attacking third.
