Just like every other year, Manchester United have been linked with a host of players from all across the globe this year. However, if the club wants to challenge for the title next season, they’ll have to sign some big names to strengthen their weak links.
Here, in this article, we look at how United might line-up next season in the dream scenario.
Defence | Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Torres, Maguire, Shaw
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has been way too inconsistent at the back this term, with some silly individual mistakes costing them the game on several occasions.
Dean Henderson might replace David de Gea between the sticks, especially after his recent streak of impressive performances.
Manchester United have been linked with a host of defenders, but if the reports are to be believed, they are presently leading the race for Pau Torres’ signature. If the Red Devils end up signing the Spanish defender, he’d immediately compete with Victor Lindelof for the right centre-back position, and one can expect him to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline next season.
The current full-backs, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw, have been doing well in the recent months, and they will continue to feature on the flanks. Moreover, with Diogo Dalot set to return and Alex Telles featuring occasionally, Solskjaer shouldn’t feel the need for additional players in the wide defensive positions.
Midfield | Rice, van de Beek, Bruno Fernandes
Apart from a quality centre-back, Manchester United need to sign a world-class defensive midfielder if they wish to challenge for major silverware next season. The Fred-McTominay partnership hasn’t been entirely reliable, and under such circumstances, the club is expected to splash the cash on at least one new midfielder in the coming transfer window.
Recent reports from the Metro suggest that Solskjaer is willing to break the bank for Declan Rice, with senior figures at the club believing that the Englishman would ‘be an asset’ at Old Trafford.
Besides, with Paul Pogba expected to leave soon, Solskjaer might finally provide Donny van de Beek with the opportunity to prove himself. As a result, the Dutch international might fill in the central midfield position next season, with Bruno Fernandes expected to continue in the attacking midfield spot.
Attack | Sancho, Martial, Rashford
It’s beyond any doubt that Anthony Martial has been very poor in front of the goal this season; however, given Borussia Dortmund’s £150 million valuation of Erling Haaland, one wouldn’t be surprised if Solskjaer gives another chance to Martial.
Various sources from Germany state that United are set to reignite their interest in Jadon Sancho this summer but could sign the Englishman for around £20million less this time.
Marcus Rashford has been in phenomenal form this term, and he will continue to feature on the left-wing next season.
