In a recent report, El Confidencial has stated that former Leicester City target Francisco Trincao could be sold this summer. It is understood that the Portuguese winger does not fit into Ronald Koeman’s new system at the Nou Camp, which could interest some English clubs like the Foxes as they were interested in landing him last summer (via El Confidencial).
Trincao’s Season Of Mixed Emotions At Catalonia
The former Braga youngster has endured a frustrating season with the Catalans as he has struggled to give a good account of himself under Ronald Koeman’s stewardship. Trincao has appeared in 36 matches for Barca this term, registering three goals, two assists and three yellow cards in various competitions.
Most of the 21-year-old’s appearances have come off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.9 shots, 0.3 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. The Portuguese wing wizard has at least taken care of the ball when distributing possession from the wide areas after making 85.5% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Trincao’s current deal with Barca is set to run out in the summer of 2025, but he seems surplus to requirements in Koeman’s squad, so a move to Leicester makes sense for the player as he could flourish playing under a great man-manager like Brendan Rodgers.
What Will The Portuguese Starlet Add To Rodgers’ Side?
Trincao is a moderately paced winger who can make some clever runs with the ball in the opposition half. He possesses excellent ball-control and is usually a composed dribbler out on the flanks. The four-time Portugal international has a good football IQ and is proficient at keeping the ball moving without breaking a sweat at the centre of the park. However, he has to find a way to be more decisive and clinical in the attacking third of the pitch.
Should Leicester Go Back In For Trincao This Summer?
Trincao has the potential to become one of the best players in his position someday. Therefore, the Foxes should consider reigniting their interest in acquiring the services of the Portuguese youngster during the summer transfer window.
At 21, the Barca whizkid has plenty of time to prove his worth at the highest level. Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers could be the ideal man to get the best out of him at the King Power Stadium if he can manage to recruit him ahead of the new season.
