In a recent segment of Super Sunday on Sky Sports (transcripted by HITC), former Liverpool centre-half Jamie Carragher had words of encouragement for West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell. Carragher said,
“Well, Aaron Cresswell set to make his 217th Premier League appearance for West Ham.
“A great signing from Ipswich.
“He has started the last 46 of their last 47 Premier League games. It just goes to show what a consistent performer he has been for West Ham.”
Cresswell’s Impressive Form At The London Stadium This Season
Cresswell has enjoyed an outstanding season with the Hammers and is currently one of the first names in David Moyes’ teamsheet because of his consistency to deliver some solid displays from the left-back position or as a centre-back. The Liverpool-born talent has been involved in 32 matches for the East London club this term, picking up seven assists across all competitions.
The 31-year-old deserves a pat on the back for averaging 1.0 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 2.2 clearances, 0.6 shots and 1.4 key passes per game in this Premier League season. He has also distributed the ball relatively well after completing 79% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
What Does The English Full-Back Bring To The Table?
Cresswell can pick and choose his moments to join in on the attack and can set-up some decent chances for his teammates up top. He excels at whipping in some inviting crosses from the left flank and has established himself as a reliable presence in defence. The English player is often quick to react to the danger and can pull off some important interceptions for his team.
The experienced left-back has done well to fill in as a makeshift centre-back when Moyes has asked him to do so, which goes to show just how valuable of a player he has become at the London Stadium. If Cresswell can finish this season strong, the Hammers would have a decent shot of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Can Cresswell Keep His Good Form Going For The Hammers?
The English sensation has shown no signs of slowing down and seems to be getting better with age. At 31, Cresswell can still perform at a high level for a few more years, so Moyes will depend a lot on him to keep his good form going for West Ham in the coming seasons.
