According to Bild, as cited by SportWitness, Borussia Dortmund are ready to offload Julian Brandt in the summer. The Bundesliga giants have grown frustrated with the playmaker’s poor performances and are willing to part ways with him after the end of the season, with the player being valued at around €25 million. Arsenal have been linked with a move for Brandt this season, so it will open up an opportunity for them to potentially bag a bargain this summer.
What Does Julian Brandt Bring To The Table?
Julian Brandt had initially begun his career as a dynamic winger during his time at Bayer Leverkusen. However, he eventually transformed himself into more of a creative midfielder as he joined Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019.
The German international is primarily known for his ability to carry the ball across the half-spaces that makes him a key outlet in the approach play. In addition, Brandt is capable of squeezing through tight spaces using his quick feet while his technically astute nature makes it easier for him to quickly build a strong connection with his teammates.
Brandt, though, does not offer too much movement, especially in recent years when the Dortmund star has struggled with fitness issues. There has been a noticeable decline in regards to his dynamic style of play, restricting his qualities to just chance creation from either set-pieces or clever through balls in behind the backline.
Why Arsenal Should Steer Clear Of Brandt
Arsenal could be taking a massive risk should they rekindle their interest in Julian Brandt. The Dortmund number ten has endured a massive decline in his game over the past 12 months, which has seen him fall behind Giovanni Reyna, Jude Bellingham and even Mahmoud Dahoud in the pecking order.
Brandt’s lack of physicality, movement and fitness are sure to make it difficult for him to quickly settle into the combative nature of the Premier League. The playmaker also tends to lose possession in front of the goal way too many times, which shouldn’t go down well with Mikel Arteta.
Although Brandt is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in the current Dortmund squad, he is simply not the ideal fit for a team that likes to dominate possession or a league that demands a lot of athleticism and physicality.
As such, a move to Arsenal will be nothing short of a huge gamble from the club’s perspective, and it would perhaps be a wiser option for Arteta to steer clear of the German international in the summer.
