According to Nicolo Schira, Bayern Munich have been rejected in their approach to sign Dodo. It appears Shakhtar Donetsk’s sporting director Carlo Nicolini has confirmed that they have declined a €25 million bid from the German club, for the services of the right-back. Nicolini, though, did maintain that another Brazilian star in Taison is set to leave the club at the end of the season.
Dodo: Player Profile
A product of the Coritiba youth academy, Dodo joined Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018. He became a part of the large contingent of Brazilians at the club, and despite a slow start to his career in Ukraine, the 22-year-old eventually became a vital part of the defensive unit last season.
This season, Dodo has notched up 15 appearances in the league so far, with his contributions helping Shakhtar keep up with league leaders Dynamo Kyiv. Indeed, the Brazilian has been involved in four league goals, impressing the onlookers with his desire to move forward and offer offensive support in the final third.
Standing at just 1.66m, Dodo might not be the most physically competent defenders around, but what he lacks in physicality, he more than makes up for it with his pace and dynamism in the final third. His technical quality also enables him to settle in quickly alongside his teammates – making him one of the most sought-after defenders in Ukraine.
A Big Blow For Bayern Munich?
Bayern Munich certainly wouldn’t enjoy missing out on the services of Dodo, as they quite evidently need a new right-back in the summer. Bouna Sarr was brought in from Marseille last summer to supplement Benjamin Pavard.
However, the Frenchman has struggled to settle in at Bavaria, showcasing poor decision making and positioning sense in the defensive third. As a result, Hansi Flick has been forced to rely on Niklas Sule instead, as the primary alternative for Pavard, who himself has suffered from injuries this season.
Dodo, in that regard, would have been an ideal option for Bayern Munich. His attacking qualities, coupled with his pace somewhat resemble their left-back sensation in Alphonso Davies. At the age of just 22, the Brazilian also has time on his side – making him a potentially smart long-term investment for the club.
Unfortunately for the Bavarians, it appears they now have to shift their attention towards other alternatives as Hansi Flick continues his search for a new right-back this summer.
